Ravi Chauhan

MBACP Registered Member, Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Welcome, I’m Ravi Chauhan—thank you for being here.

I’m a qualified and verified counsellor and psychotherapist based in Leicester, offering therapy in both English and Gujarati. Whether you’re navigating emotional challenges, life transitions, or simply seeking clarity, I’m here to support you.

In our sessions, you’ll find a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where we can gently explore what’s happening in your life. Together, we’ll work to understand your thoughts and feelings, at a pace that feels right for you.

I know how hard it can be to speak about painful experiences. Reaching out is often the hardest part—and by finding your way here, you’ve already taken a courageous and meaningful first step.

My journey into the world of counselling began in my teenage years, volunteering at a local mental health facility. Providing practical and emotional support to those in need sparked a lifelong commitment to care, compassion, and human connection. That early experience laid the foundation for everything I do today.

This was reinforced at Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI)—an institution whose mission to promote wellbeing and social impact deeply resonated with my own values. During my training, I spent two transformative years at a cancer support centre in Leicester, working closely with clients, their families, and carers. The relationships I built there were profoundly moving, and I continue to volunteer with the charity to this day.

I believe therapy should be accessible to everyone at a reasonable price. Therefore, I offer concessions based on affordability.

My work is also rooted in inclusivity and cultural sensitivity, and it extends to supporting individuals from marginalised communities, including refugees, ethnic minorities, and those navigating disability—whether lifelong, acquired, or evolving. I’m also an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist, with experience supporting clients from Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversities (GSRD) communities. As a member of the Black, African, Asian Therapy Network (BAATN), I bring a culturally informed lens to my practice, helping clients feel seen, heard, and understood.

Background And Passions

Firstly, I come from a background of South African and Indian heritage, and I grew up in Kenya.

Here in the UK, I have co-owned an Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty salon for over 30 years, which has given me further invaluable insight into the dynamics of the black community that I work alongside.

One of the big loves is cats – I find their constant curiosity, fierce independence and absolute lack of fear intriguing and utterly endearing. Gardening is another passion of mine, as I love pottering around in the garden.

Empathy And Understanding

Beyond my professional credentials, I bring something deeply personal to my work: I’ve experienced therapy myself. I know what it’s like to sit in the client’s chair—to feel vulnerable, uncertain, and hopeful all at once. That experience has shaped my practice with empathy, authenticity, and a genuine respect for each person’s journey.

At my Leicester-based practice, I offer a calm, welcoming space where you can speak freely and be met with understanding—not judgment. I use an integrative approach, drawing from a range of therapeutic models to tailor our sessions to your unique needs and experiences.

Together, we’ll explore what’s happening in your life, make sense of your thoughts and emotions, and work toward meaningful change that supports your mental and emotional wellbeing.

If you feel ready to take the next step, I’d be honoured to walk alongside you. Let’s start with a friendly, informal chat about how we might work together.
