If you are thinking about seeking support through counselling or psychotherapy, particularly for the first time, it is only natural that you will have lots of questions. Here, I’ve answered some of the most common questions I get asked.
A: Sessions, which are confidential and held in a safe space, give you the chance to explore and understand your feelings, thoughts and experiences, and aim to help you to develop coping mechanisms through talking with a trained therapist.
I will never tell you what to do or how you should feel in my therapy sessions in Leicester, or therapy sessions via telephone or video chat. Instead, through posing questions and giving you time to express yourself, you may start to see things differently.
It’s really important to remember that you do not have to be diagnosed with a mental illness to have or to benefit from psychotherapy or counselling. Therapy is there to help anyone who feels they are struggling with their mental or emotional wellbeing.
A: I know that it can be difficult to talk to someone you don’t know about things that you usually keep to yourself but the right therapist will make you feel heard, understood and safe, with no judgement.
By visiting my website, you’ve already started the process of finding the right therapist for you. Practicalities such as location, appointment availability or whether or not you want to meet face-to-face could be the most important considerations for you. Or you might be interested in a specific type of therapy or therapist.
The next step to take is to make contact, and if you choose to get in touch with me, you can call me on the telephone or drop me an email, whichever suits you. Just give me a brief outline of what is happening or what you would like to talk about, and we’ll take it from there.
Please note: I offer a free one-to-one 15-minute session for new clients. This gives you the chance to see if you think we could work well together. Don’t worry if you don’t feel we are the right fit, that is completely okay.
A: My fee is from £55 for individuals and £80 for couples per session.
A: A 10% discount is applicable for six or more sessions booked and paid for in advance. Payment may be made by bank transfer, cheque, or online payment.
A: I do not ask you to commit to a set amount of sessions.
We will work together to decide the best time to finish. I usually advise weekly sessions, but they can be more or less frequent, depending on our arrangement.
A: Yes, of course, but I would advise bringing sessions to a halt slowly if possible. Sometimes therapy can make you feel overwhelmed or unsettled, and I would want you to talk to me about this so that I can offer you my full support.
A: I offer face-to-face therapy appointments in Leicester. I am also able to provide online therapy via remote video services such as Zoom, See, Google Meets and Microsoft TEAMS, or via telephone, irrespective of your location, the sessions can be accessed from abroad. The choice is yours.
A: Although therapy is available on the NHS, there can be long waiting times due to demand. Appointment times and durations are likely to be less flexible than with private therapy, and NHS talking therapy services usually inform your GP that you are getting support, whereas private therapy is confidential.
Feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start? You don’t have to face this journey alone. Whether you’re struggling with grief, anxiety, or life transitions, we are here to support you.
